Lake Nakuru, Kenya

Lake Nakuru is one of the Rift Valley's soda lakes, best known for flamingos that nest along it's shores.  Lake Nakuru National Park was enlarged to provide protection for the black rhinoceros, and now boasts 25 black rhinoceros and 70 white rhinoceros.  In some areas of eastern Africa one naturalist has been assigned to each rhino, in the interest of protecting them.

Our individual huts...

The view... ahhhhh...

And of course there was a game, or as we like to call it, animal viewing drive...

Lions rarely climb, let alone perch, in trees.  These lions at Lake Nakura didn't get that memo...

Pairs of Zebras will align themselves facing opposite directions... so they have a 360 degree view to watch for predators.  With their perfect black and white striping, they beg photography!

And I'll just let the photos below speak for themselves and the beautiful diversity on this continent.

Rothschild Giraffe

Our first Rhinoceros sighting in our two trips to Africa.  The black rhinoceros is now found only in Kenya, northern Tanzania, and Rwanda, other than 60 individuals being kept in South Africa.
